Awards
A prize or other marks of recognition given in an achievement of an award.
Imagine a few decades ago, when somebody, somewhere, someone did something amazing. Amazing enough to draw crowds, for people to support them, to look up to them as their role models.
So, one day a rich man sipping on his morning tea probably thought "HOLY MOLY, THIS CHAP SHOULD GET AN AWARD."
And lo and behold, the circus had begun. Very soon every single soul, dead or alive or undead wanted an award.
They carefully practised for the speeches they would give. In front of mirrors, while sleeping, while dressing up for work while doing their chores. Everywhere.
So imagine, you get an award. For the first few minutes, you are happy. Happy enough to be tap dancing inside your head. Next, you'll think "I'll only tell the people who actually care about me,". And after that, the award sits on some shelf in your house and nobody even looks at it.
Why do people even want awards? So they can get the satisfaction of having done something in their lives.
Nowadays, every single thing has an award. If you know how to do something, you will definitely have an award.
People always talk about getting the award they deserve. They talk about the disappointment they feel when they don't get an award.
But do awards really matter now? In this world of averages, is it necessary for someone of a little more calibre to be acknowledged for it?
